It may not seem like it with the sweltering temperatures, but summer is drawing to a close. You may have noticed a sea of school buses on the road in the past few weeks and a longer commute to work. New teachers have been met. Orientations have been oriented. Classes have resumed. So follows the first traditional assignment of the year. “What did you do this Summer?”
Well, here it goes:
My Summer

My Summer got off to a rocky start. I flew to Atlanta before Memorial Day to meet with fellow Message Pitch contributors Drew, Will and Jordan for a couple days of baseball and fellowship. I had a smooth ride from San Antonio to Atlanta and the weather was perfect. No delays in an aviation world that is full of them. My flight arrived promptly on schedule. Nothing could ruin this trip.
I turned on my phone to let the boys know the flight had landed and that it was time to let the good times roll. Drew and Will were assigned to pick me up. That was my first mistake. My then “friends” informed me they were “two out” from me. Like every other normal person, I assumed that it was two minutes so I let them know I would deplane as soon as I could. I would hate to keep them waiting. I then received their clarification text that they were still two HOURS away.
It was clear. Their actions had spoken for them. They had forgotten about me. I was Kevin McCallister. It may be the busiest airport in the world, but I never felt more alone in the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
It takes a big man to forgive somebody after this oversight and I am that big man. To forgive is to forget so this is me forgetting. We managed to rally from there and salvaged the trip. However, Jordan is my designated chauffeur going forward.
There was a beach trip in there too and I continued my Messi-like quest to be the leading scorer in my over 30 indoor soccer league.
Against my better judgement, I stayed in touch with the guys, and we have some things in store for this Fall here at The Message Pitch. Instead of looking back, I choose to look forward and here’s what to expect:
Tom Brady may be retired but there will still be Tom Brady hate from our designated hater, Will. He also still holds the reins to our X(Twitter) account.
Prepare to take another ride on the Tulane Green Wave hype.
There will undoubtedly be shots thrown the Cowboys way from yours truly but the 49ers and their fans are really pushing it.
Game picks based solely on the quality of the jersey or mascot.
And so much more.
It’s good to be back. Even if you are the apparent Meg Griffin of the group. Somebody’s got to class this podcast up. The Message Pitch is back in session.
