Five.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been at this for five years now. July 28 will mark the fifth anniversary of the debut episode of The Message Pitch Podcast.

I’ll never forget the first couple of recordings; the first one was done at the first house I ever owned, and I can remember sitting in a small room at a house Will rented at the time for our second. We knew we had something special, and we knew it would take time to get there.

I miss the optimism of those pre-COVID days. We refuse to do politics, but there’s no doubting that 2020 affected all of us mentally. But one of the things that kept Matt, Will, and myself sane was trying to record and grow the show. We ventured into video for the first time. Matt recorded some hilarious bits. We did a Thanksgiving Special. And we all kept going.

We started our Bowl Pick’em Special in 2021, and it turned into a fun—if not excessively long—tradition.

Along the way, we’ve been fortunate enough to have some amazing guests join us. JB, Pops, Jim Peters, and McDuffie joined us for an episode or two. Cole Pinkston from On3 Media and our buddy Matt Dubois each joined us each for two amazing episodes—that the media unfortunately got lost for, and we’re not sure we’ll ever get those back. Jordo has been a game changer for us, to the point he’s the only guest we’ve ever given a title to.

You know our mission statement by now: we’re like your favorite sports bar. We want to be a place for everyone, with the only division found amongst your fan allegiances. We’re located at the intersection of sports and pop culture, and we hope the rent doesn’t go up there anytime soon. We try to put out entertaining content on our site and in our podcast. And we think that we’ve got a good thing going.

But the real reason we’ve been able to do this as long as we have? You.

You, the listener and reader. You keep us going. Will calls you guys The Strike Zone, but maybe you’re more like patrons. You help keep the lights on in the lean times. Life can be tough sometimes, and we hope we can be an oasis for you when it is. Please know that you have helped me get through rough patches with your support of this little passion project.

So here’s to you. Thanks for listening and reading, and never giving up on The Message Pitch. We appreciate your support over the last five years, and we hope to continue to bring you a good time.

Here’s to five. And here’s to more.
