Tuesday Mailbag, 8.20.24

In an effort to show our appreciation for supporting us the last five years, we’ve decided to start The Message Pitch Mailbag to connect with our listeners/readers.

The premise is simple: You ask, we answer. Interested? Shoot us an email at info@themessagepitch.com with the subject line “Mailbag Question.”

Here’s what you wanted to know this week:

“What’d you think of ol #3 putting the bumper to lagano at Richmond?”

DALEYEAH

DREW: I can already tell by your handle you’re not gonna like my answer. I’m working on an article about it and NASCAR as a whole after that, but I’ll give you a preview here.

NASCAR is at a crossroads, and 20 years of gimmicks is about to come home to roost. Dillon did what he had to, and honestly what we expect of him at this point; he’s not a top driver, but he does win every so often, and seems to do this by gambling on strategy, surviving a plate race, or blatantly taking out the leader. It’s what he does. Was it cheap? Yes. But my question in response to that is: Was it as cheap as the stupid overtime rules that kept him from having a great drive and outright win on pace?

It’s not entirely his fault, though. NASCAR’s gimmicky points system post-2003 has led to this. And they’ve got to decide if they’re a racing series or an entertainment series.

I hope they choose wisely.

“When y’all talkin Bama on the podcast?”

Roll Tide Billy

DREW: Soon, Billy. Soon.

“Thoughts on MLB playoffs?”

Gary in Gwinnett

DREW: To be fair, I haven’t kept up as well this season. We’ll have a prediction show later, so I won’t ruin it all, but if I had to guess: Dodgers and Braves both choke at some point, *in Coach 30 voice* moment gets too big for the Orioles (though I hope not), and Astros keep doing Astros things.
