In an effort to show our appreciation for supporting us the last five years, we’ve decided to start The Message Pitch Mailbag to connect with our listeners/readers.
The premise is simple: You ask, we answer. Interested? Shoot us an email at info@themessagepitch.com with the subject line “Mailbag Question.”
Here’s what you wanted to know this week:
“Is Tech that good or FSU that bad?”
–Gary in Warner Robbins
DREW: I think a little of both. FSU looked pedestrian at best, and I think it’s safe to say DJ Uiagalelei isn’t the answer at QB for the ‘Noles. I think Mike Norvell is another couple of these performances away from being ushered out the door for Coach Prime.
Now, that said, Georgia Tech really impressed me. That defense is stout, and Brent Key is a hoss of a coach. They reminded me of what Utah does: shows up, doesn’t care who you are, slides a bar in the door, and proceeds to fight you blow for blow. I’d love nothing more than to see a gritty Ramblin’ Wreck cause chaos in the ACC. I will certainly be pulling for them, because a good Tech team is good for college football.
“LOLbos?”
–Tyrone in Aggieland
DREW: Before I say anything else, I love the fact that you have enough swagger to refer to New Mexico State fandom as Aggieland knowing good and well Texas A&M thinks they own that term. Good on you, Tyrone. And way to absolutely drop kick a rival when they’re down. That Auburn win has done a number for you guys.
I feel for New Mexico. They were up big, looking to get the season started off right, and then BOOM—choked. They have great colors, a great name, and a great mascot and absolutely nothing to show for it. And to lose to a I-AA school (yes we still refer to I-A and I-AA here)—albeit a very, very good one—turns a loss into a laughing stock. I hope the Lobos can turn it around, but looking at their schedule, with their next two at Arizona and at Auburn, it ain’t looking too good for the red and silver.
“How about that guy playing in the same game for two different teams??”
-Boomer
DREW: It was pretty cool, Boomer. Baseball is full of cool factoids and nooks like that, more so than any other sport. It’s one of the things that makes it such a great game.
